Every Mile a Memory

There is a country song called “Every Mile a Memory”. It is a sad song of a man full of regret but I like to think of every mile being a memory as a happy theme. In the next week our wonderful Jeep, Sunny, will hit her 90,000 mile mark. Sunny is the first brand new vehicle I have ever owned. She and I have been through a lot. When I was younger I never thought of myself as a Jeep Gurl but as I get older I realize I have always had a lust for traveling. From family road trips to Chicago (from Florida) to back road wanders with my dad there is not much more I enjoy in life than rolling down the window on a nice sunny afternoon (or putting the top down) and letting my hair blow while I travel down some windy road.

Driving Sunny

Sunny is the first vehicle Bill and I purchased together. We went through all the phases of deciding what type of car we needed to tow behind us when we got the RV. Bill’s Acura was on her last legs and so we started shopping in the summer of 2008. We had researched and knew 2 of the best options for what we wanted were going to be a Honda CRV or a Jeep. We had thought we were settled on the CRV but wanted to test drive a Jeep just to make sure. We were convinced the ride was going to be rough and knowing how much time we would be on the road we knew we needed something comfortable. Little did we know when our fannies hit the seat how we would fall in love. We stopped by the Jeep shop in Bellevue, Washington and decided to test drive it. We hopped in and melted. The first test drive was wonderful. We only drove around the city a little but we were both pretty convinced at that point this is what we wanted.

We spent a few more months researching and discussing it. We would get better gas mileage with the CRV but we loved the Jeep. The Jeep lets us take the roof off and Bill always wanted a convertible.

We went back and forth but the truth of the matter was we were in love. Once we made our decision we knew we needed to test a few more things out to decide what kind of roof we wanted as well as other options. We stopped by Crystler/Jeep in Renton, Washington one lovely sunny afternoon and found a fun loving sales guy that helped us take the roofs off, put them back on and take them off again. He showed us all the different features and discussed all the options. We took the roofs off and with the sales guy as our navigator traversed the countryside. I sat in the back seat to see how things were from there and noticed the luxurious amount of legroom in the 4-door option. We do have a tendency to be around friends and pile them in so we knew we had to have enough seating for a minimum of 4 people.

We went home that day knowing almost exactly what we wanted. The Renton dealer though was not giving us the price we wanted. We contacted Costco that has dealer discounts and ended up getting our lovely Sunny for almost $4,000 cheaper than any other dealer would quote us. She is a light in my life. We have traversed so many wonderful miles together and hope to continue doing so for many more years.
